30 Years of Pokémon: How did we get here? 🎂

Yo, can we just take a second to acknowledge that Pokémon is officially 30 years old? It’s wild to think that something that started as a weird bug-collecting hobby in Japan in 1996 has turned into the highest-grossing media franchise in history.
So, why has it actually lasted this long without falling off?
Multigenerational Appeal: We’re now at the point where parents who grew up with Red and Blue are teaching their own kids how to play. The Pokémon Company has mastered the "easy to learn, hard to master" loop that keeps kids hooked while adults dive deep into competitive VGC strategies.
Constant Evolution (Pun Intended): They never stay in one lane. Pokémon went from pixelated handhelds to augmented reality with Pokémon GO, and now into high-end animation and massive global pop-up events.
The Emotional Connection: It’s not just about the math; it’s about the partners. Whether it’s your first Starter Pokémon or a rare Shiny hunt that took 50 hours, the brand creates a weirdly personal bond that other franchises just can't replicate.
The "Hobby" Ecosystem: Between the Trading Card Game (which is currently having a massive resurgence) and the competitive World Championships, there is always something to do other than just play the main series games.
It’s been three decades and honestly, it doesn’t feel like it’s slowing down. If anything, with the 30th Anniversary announcements, it feels like it's bigger than it was in the 90s.
What was your first Pokémon memory? Are you an "Original 151" purist or did you jump in during a later generation?
